In addition to the thousands they already have- they come out with new ones or alternates pretty regularly
Plus they have the characters they got from Fawcett, Charleton & other companies

Keep in mind, DC has been publishing comics since the 30's (at least) and several of the heroes have multiple characters (Flash has 4 incarnations now, Green Lantern has hundreds if you count the Corps).

Oh man there is to many to keep track of because you have the 7 staple characters(batman,superman, wonder women, the flash, green lantern, hawk girl, and the martian manhunter) but there is so many more. Follow the link to the best list that I could fine(contains both heroes and villains though)
