If you aren't already familiar with Victor Brockis, then you should be. For a start, try Beat Punks; this traces the relationship between the Punks and Beats like Burroughs and Ginsberg. He's also done a very insightful biography of Keith Richards.

He's considered one of the foremost rock journalists of the late 60s and 70s.
