I don't have any data for you, but from a purely experiential and anecdotal perspective, without a doubt, YES!

It rather sucks to be surrounded by willful ignorance, stupidity, and carelessness. Indeed, it's depressing to the extreme.

hmm, I'm not intelligent and also not always that cheerful. For me it doesn't go. Now ask the other 5000 people for your research!
