Is it possible to go spend a day in Calais (France) from London? If so, how do I do (bus, train, or what? Any sugestions?)?

Yes you can. It is possible to get a Eurostar train - but not very practical since only a couple actually call there and the station is some way out of town. So what you do is get a train to Dover (from either Victoria or Charing Cross - use www.nationalrail.co.uk journey planner for times and fares) then make your way to the Eastern Docks. This is quite a long way and there always used to be a special bus service from the station, but I don't know if it still runs. You can walk it, but its a bit of a hike - so you may have to resort to a cab. There is a very frequent service of ferries, but I'm afraid its rather geared up to serve cars and lorries - though foot passengers are still welcome. At Calais I imagine the bus linking the ferry terminal to the town still runs. How long you get there depends on how early you are prepared to get up and how late you want to get home!
Don't forget your passport!
P.S. The hovercraft no longer operates and Eurostar trains go from Waterloo - not Earls Court!!

You can go to Calais lots of ways from London - by car or train or bus, but as others have said, Calais is not a pretty city, it's more a place you go for booze cruising.

Boulogne is much nicer. Nicer still is Le Touquet which is just west of Boulogne. I have spent wonderful days in Le Touquet, taking in the fresh air, beach combing and eating beautiful seafood while looking at the ocean...it is also home to some world-class golf courses.

Yes, you can go by bus (National Express) or train to Dover and then catch the ferry across to Calais.. Check the ferry times first so that you can allow enough time to get from the bus or train to the ferry port (takes about 30 minutes, or less if you take a taxi).
