i think that, at least partially, the message is about loving life...how it's short, and you gotta get in there and do what you wanna do.

That is such a great chili song. It can be interpreted anyway you want. Depending on your mood. That's what so great about music. Its in the eye of the beholder

The red hot chili peppers are what you would call 'deep thinkers'. Anthony( the lead singer and he writes all the lyrics)uses experiences from his life and puts them into song. My interpretation is that it is about their career.
