The United States as you know,,is a much younger country than say,,,,,Britain.
So here's a little history for ya,,,,
The rules of the road,,,or Right Of Way as it is called in England,,came from Thousands of years ago, when men would have to protect themselves on the road,,,the main weapon for this use was a saber,or sword.
And most men are right handed.
Having your opponent come at you along your right side would let you draw your sword and be able to defend yourself.
This is why people travelled on the left side of the road or path,,,to allow defense against an oncoming foe,,with the right side.
try it yourself,,try and have a swordfight on horseback eading with your left side,,,it wont work,,and you would find yourself very dead very quickly.
Your very life depended on knowing the rules of the road,,and the "Right Of Way"

Because they want you next to oncoming traffic ... london they drive on the left side of the road and have right hand steer. Its saftey.

BECAUSE WHEN WE GOT RID OF BRITISH RULE, WE DECIDED TO DO THINGS OUR WAY. SO WE DONT
