A couple of hints. First, if you just recently bought your new plant and brought it home from the store----don't worry right now about re-soiling it. The first order of business is helping the new plant get use to it's new home----a lot like bringing home a new puppy. Look on the plants label and see what the plant likes----sun, strong light, shade, etc---then find a spot that matches that environment in your home. Second, most house plants suffer from over watering, rather than under watering. Wait until the soil is dry then give your plant a deep watering. Right now your plant will only need water once or twice a week. Every third watering or so add some plant food----like MiracleGro to help the plant along. Last, after 6 months or so, when the plant is dry---pull the plant out of it's pot. If you see lots of roots around the outside of the soil----then it's time to re-pot. Find a larger pot add some potting soil to the bottom and put in your plant---add lots of potting soil all around the plant and firmly pack the soil. Schazm your plant is now good for another year. If you don't see roots around the edge of the soil---put your plant back in it's pot, and don't fool with success.

Generally water thoroughly once a week, keep it in a south window, but not too close. Doesn't need repoting until it gets too big for the pot it's in. Does the plant have a name? Good luck with it, plants are fun to have and watch grow.
