For toothpaste just apply a small amount and rub with soft cloth.
Bleaching agents are a common component of denture cleaner tablets, providing the chemical action that helps the tablet remove plaque and to whiten and bleach away stains. This is what makes them surprizingly useful for cleaning toilets, coffeemakers, jewlery and enamel cookware, among other thing.
To remove built-up tarnish from your silver jewlery, make a thick paste with 1/4th cup baking soda and 2 tablespoons water. Apply with a damp sponge and gently rub, rinse and buff dry.
Ketchup shines tarnished silver and ifg it has a smooth surface, dunk in bowl of katchup for a few minutes. If it has a tooled or detailed surface, use an old toothbrush to work the ketchup into the crevices. To avoid damaging silver, don't leave the ketchup on any longer than necessary. Rinse your jewelery clean and dry it, and it is ready to wear
I buy inexpensive bottled liquid silver cleaner from my jewler if it is pricey stuff I am cleaning or have them clean it but you wanted household items..

these are all great ideas, and I do have one more to add to the list. take a sheet of aluminum foil in the sink, add a tsp, of baking soda onto the foil, add hot water, add the jewlery item, let soak for a few minutes and Voila" you have a shiny new silver necklace.
