The odds makers are aware of the fact that if the Yanks are losing, Steinbrenner will trade/buy players to make them a WS contender. It happens every year, and will continue to happen until baseball institutes a salary cap.

The Yankees didn't go backwards. The got rid of Randy Johnson and brought back Pettite. Add to that the fact that there is a good shot at them bringing in Clemens in June and you have yourself a bonified WS contender. Right now, the Yankees, BoSox, and Indians have the best chance at the title.

They are just odds. A silly number. What really matters in the 162 games EACH team plays in the regular season.
By the way, if you are a gambling man then put your money where your mouth is.
I'm not a gambling man...I work too hard for my money to give it away.
However, I do find it funny that the odds makers think The Cubs have a better chance then thier southside crybaby neighbors!
And besides, with the history of The NY Yankees, of course the odds makers are going to go with them.

Remeber Vegas is built by losers, so for the regular gambler who bets with 4 teams at the beginning of the year and has little knowledge of the teams, he will go Yankees, bcuz evry thinks baseball Yankess Red Sox. It's just like that.

The Yankees always get the pre-season odds. Reality will set in during the season though.

All the oddsmakers know is how to manipulate the numbers in order to get the largest amount of people to lay their money down. That's it.
Most (if not all) oddsmakers rely on gut instinct alone. That includes knowing public perception of a franchise whether they are a legit favorite or not.
