A very good option for sports bike riders are used race scrubs. 2nd hand tyres might sound like a bad idea but you can get expensive super sticky tyres (Metzeler racetecs, Pirelli Supercorsa Pro's ect) that have only done about 20 laps for about £20-30 each. They have had no puncture repairs, have never been run flat or abused and they will have only been on the bike for about an hour.
They are quite worn on the very edges but you'd rarely; if ever get it banked over than far on the road. The central 80% of the tread is like new.
People might think they are unsafe but the only reason racers don't want them any more is because when they get slightly worn they might only give 90% grip. This is way more than any road rider needs but on the track, if you have 90% grip and your rival has new tyres with 100% they have a slight advantage. There's no point in spending thousands to make the bike competetive then losing out for the sake of £250 for a pair of fresh tyres so they stick new ones on.
Being soft compound they wear out a bit quicker than a road baised tyre but when you can buy 6-7 of them for the price of one new one it's not an issue. Plenty of people use them on the road, they are very easy on the wallet and they are perfectly safe. Worth considering.

All of those are good, I have ridden the pilots and the metz. I have the Pirelli's on my spare rims, they wont go on till the current powers are toast, so no feed back yet on those. The bridgestones are nice as well. I'd stay away from the dunlops, their quality control sucks. I have had some decent dunlops, then all of a sudden the next one you put on barely grips the road.

they might properly be previous tires that would quite be thrown away. you have to be careful even as paying for them. in the journey that they have got been sitting too lengthy, the oils would have seeped out and that could make the tire ware quicker, improperly, or merely be risky to journey on.
