..and that, very succinctly, even those who APPEAR to accept them, are just leading us to believe they do? These people are Muslims. It is a strong religion with even stronger beliefs -- As strong if not stronger than Judaism or Catholicism. They number over 1.8 billion with numbers increasing daily. These people will never change unless they change their religion. Something they will never do during most of our lifetimes.
They are an ancient culture. Most Americans know little of ancient cultures. But perhaps it is time to learn more about these people, instead of allowing ignorance to rule your thoughts.
Just as they learn more and more about us, we have a responsibility to learn as much as we can about them. Otherwise, no matter what Bush, his cronies, or any other politicians do to try to convince them of a westernized society, the issue is all for naught.

Sorry. Democracy is a long way coming. Bush has caused too many deaths and too much destruction. Millions in Iraq know personally those people who have been killed because of this war. Such actions are not easily forgotten. We have accomplished little to bring about reconciliation.

This is a thorny problem without the easy resolution that our government earlier promised would materialize. I think you've hit the heart of the matter when you talk about the Muslim religion being the true cultural difference. Here in the US, I've met Muslims who are able to seperate religion and state, but sharia demands that the Prophet's laws become THE law in any Muslim-run state. I don't think that there is any way we can live with these people without being willing to meet them in friendly conversation. The man in the street in both Iraq and Chicago need to know about the other's love of family, really anything which is true in both countries. Change needs to be on both sides or no change can happen at all.

If the average person is smart enough to realize that fact, why was our leadership in such a hurry to install a democracy where they were almost assured from the beginning it would fail? Could it be that was never the true reason for the "liberation" of Iraq?

I agree. We need to pull our troops to the borders and let the crazy a-holes blow each other up. When they decide to act like human beings, we can offer assistance again.

Most Americans "get it". It's the idiot in the White House and his cronies who don't.

I don't care if they accept our government or our way of life, just have them set up their OWN democratic government so we can avoid getting future Saddams. :S
