I am assuming the door opens inward.
To close it you had to pull it shut from the outside.
There is a strip of wood along the top and both sides of the door.
You will need a thin pry bar to get between the door frame and this strip of wood near the bottom edge of the door. Pry it out a little at a time working up to and past the door knob. Once you get it loose (all the way up), there will be a gap where you can slip a thin knife in and work the latch open. Once the door is open, replace the door stop that you removed.
(If this is a "Quickset" brand, this should be fairly easy (I've had to do many of these as a handyman). [Even though I was an Electrician by trade].
Good Luck ! ! !

If the knob you are looking at has a simple round hole in the center, you should be able to insert a nail there and push the little button right in the center through this hole. If it is a turn type lock, you will need a tiny screwdriver, or something with a flat end on it that will fit into the hole and alow you to turn the little flat head slot within the knob.

Credit card should work too if you know how to do it

good luck

This sounds like you have a privacy set on the door? This is the same lock as on a bathroom door. If it is just take a piece of wire and insert it in the hole of the knob. The door should open.

If the door has a lock on it with a key then that will be harder to open. You may need a locksmith to come and pick the lock.

Regards.

You could climb through a window or if the hinges of the door are on your side you could pull the pins out. Of course there is always the option of trying to pick the lock. If non of these work you could call a locksmith.

Hope this helps and I think it would be wise to make a copy or two of the key. Just in case.

try this, get a key ''any key'' that will fit inside you lock, then tap the key with a hammer then most of the time this will jar the lock dials down to the shape of the key thats in there, then the door will open.''this will not damege you lock and you old key will work like all ways'' if that dosent work try slideing cridet card or any thing that is flat, thin, and kinda of strong down between the door faceing and door untill it pushes the lever inside back.NOTE: if you have dead bolt the card trick will not work.if all else fells call a lock smith.

Take the door stop off. It will be easier to jimmy the lock. Are your hinge pins on your side?

Use a coat hanger to pick at the lock. Or call a Locksmith.
