Greece - Olympia - is where it all originated from - around 776 BC I think, originally only open to the Greeks but later to the Romans too.

So short answer is "no where before Greece".

In more recent times, it was revived by holding once again in Greece in 1896.

Initially women were not only forbidden to participate or view the games - but if one managed to sneek in and was caught - they popped her over the edge of a cliff.

Olympics in Athens, Greece were in 2004.
Previously, Olympics 2000 were held in Sydney, Australia (also hailed as the best games ever...)
*wink*
Next games in 2008, held in Beijing, China. Let's see it, ay?
Next games in 2012, held in London, England (and they're trying to beat Sydney's games - not likely).
