I think you need to refine your question. I think that overall Shaq is a better player but he's a lot older now and if I had to pick which one I would want on my team, it would be Yao. But I would take Shaq in his prime over Yao for sure. Shaq is more physical and will do the dirty work around the basket. Yao needs to man up a bit more and not look like a moving pylon around the net. His face rarely shows intensity!

In his prime, Shaq is head and shoulders over Yao. Yao is good, but has been inconsistent due to injuries. Shaq was the centerpiece of three Laker championships and played a relatively strong role in Miami's title run last year over Dallas. He has been a dominating force over the years as few can defend him for a full 48 minutes. Because of his size, he is a problem in the paint defensively as well. He can score, rebound, and block. It is too soon in Yao's career to compare him to Shaq and injuries have hurt him early, so it is too early to tell.

wow, lol at these people, they are comparing shaq in his prime to yao when yao aint even in his prime yet, yea thats really fair guys. right now, yao is way better than shaq. all shaq does is back you down, swing his elbow so you get out of the way and dunk. he cant hit a FT to save his life, he cant hit a jumpshot, he cant do half the things yao can.

for those who think yao is better, think about it. hes 7 foot 6 and sux at rebounding. he looks ugly, and just looks like a girl on the floor. shaq will always be a better player, in his prime or when hes 200 years old... assuming hes still alive.
