I think they signed Garcia because Plummer retired. I dont know why they gave the Broncos a draft pick for a player that 1) doesnt want to play for them and 2) has threatend to retire because of it. Doesnt make sense to me. They dont need two veteran QBs they need to draft someone. I am not covinced that Chris Simms is or will ever be anything more than a good option for a backup QB.

With Simms seriously injured, their back up was someone that wasn't able to pick up the slack and win games. They signed Garcia as possible starter, it all depends on how the competition between Garcia and Simms goes as to who will be the starter vs the backup. By Denver trading Plummer they would save around 3 mil on the cap as well as Tampa giving Denver a 6th round draft pick in next years draft on the condition that he actually reports. They wanted Plummer as an option to get a better 2007 pick from either the Texans, which seems more likely, or the Raiders. Although Plummer has announced his retirement on his website, it's not quite official through the NFL regs. Tampa is still trying to convince him to postpone retirement so that they can trade him to a team that would more then likely make him the starter. It's all a numbers game so that Tampa can have better picks to help them get the players they want right now. Actually many teams will pad their roster full of 5 or 6 players in a position to keep several options open. This is just the first time it involved so many high profile players rather then unknowns.

They got Garcia because Plummer said he was retiring. Garcia is just back up QB who can bring veteran leadership for a few games. He is definitely not a long term answer. Jake Plummer has the reputation for choking in the playoffs, but has a better chance of being a long term winner in Tampa. Plummer wanted to screw the Broncos, if he retired he was owed bonus money, and then he could come out of retirement and go to any team that wanted him.

It doesn't make any sense just looking at it, but I think that Plummer isn't with his 2007 season team yet. Tampa Bay was looking for a veteran QB and they signed Jeff Garcia, who desired to go to a team that he had a chance to start with. Then they trade for Jake Plummer, who initially chose retirement over playing with the Bucs (can you blame him?), but he wants to start somewhere. If he wanted to be a backup, he could have re-signed with Denver and backed up Cutler. Tampa Bay saw the opportunity to lock up the top two veteran quarterbacks and took advantage of it. They can get an additional draft pick for Plummer if they move him and thats if he still wants to play. I'm not convinced of that yet. I would be suprised if both are on the roster come Week 1.

They most likely nabbed Garcia BECAUSE they thought Plummer was retiring. Now nobody knows what is going on because Plummer may report after all, but it doesn't seem likely. The Bucs thought they initially lost out on their first option so they got their second option instead, and now it would seem that Plummer isn't 100% on retiring. Right now all we can do is watch and wonder as the Bucs try to solve a situation that went from stable to puzzling in a heartbeat.

Jake Plummer is going to retire. He said he has no desire to play football for any team. The Broncos just wanted to get rid of him. And who ever said Jeff Garcia is going to compete with Chris Sims is 100% wrong. Jeff Garcia is the new starting QB for Tampa.

They signed Garcia because of their lack of depth at the QB position, and Garcia has shown he can compete in the right system. They received Plummer in a trade and there's no guarantee that he will even report to them. Plummer is a quality starter, as far as quality starter means in reference to the Bucs starter last season. I think Plummers remarks about retiring were bogus, he would have to be insane to not want to play and earn his 5 million this year. And , if he does retire, the Bucs just gained cap room for future acquisitions. Either way, the Bucs upgraded at that position, they obviously think that either one is better than the prospect of having Simms or Gradkowski(?) starting for them, I may have to agree. If they both show up for camp, it could be an interesting competition for that starting spot.

They signed Garcia so they have a good back-up and if Sims isn't fully recuperated. They traded for Plummer so they could get a draft pick and there probably going to trade him for another draft pick. Plummer isn't going to retire. He may end up in Houston eventually. Back with Gary Kubiak were running the bootleg (which is his favorite) will be the only way he won't be sacked cause face it the Texans O-Line is horrible.

I kinda thought Plummer would go to Houston. I'm sure Plummer will be the starter and Garcia his number two. That's all I can think of. The sad part is it's a step up from what they had.

You never know if a quarterback will get hurt or play badly so you need options. They traded for Plummer bus he is playing with the idea of retiring so they picked up Garcia who know the West Coast Offense to compete with Simms who is the starter but Gruden is not thrilled with him right now.
