Well--first China is a HUGE country of many ethnicities. Therefore you have many different cuisines from which to choose. Some are spicy, some not, some use a lot of oil, some do not, some eat strange animals, some do not. And on and on. The best Chinese foods I have tasted have profound layers of flavor that Japanese foods do not. On the other hand, there are certain flavors that are typically Japanese. . .and when you miss Japan like I do one sip of sake just sends every memory flooding back. Japanese food is so simple and fresh, pure almost. . . .
Both have a great deal to offer.

I ate some really good Japanese food in an authentic Japanese restaurant just outside of LA, on interstate 10.....can't remember the name of the town or restaurant though...sorry.
So I will have to agree with you and say Japanese.
I think the town was Monterey Park but I could be wrong!

Although I am more interested in Japanese language and culture, in America, I like the Chinese food better. With that said, Chinese food in America, and Japanese food in America are much different than in China and Japan. (General Tso's is so popular in America, and you can't order it in China).
I have been to Japan, though, and I absolutely love the food.
I've never been to China, so unfortunately I cannot say whether or not I like AUTHENTIC Chinese food...

I totally agree with the Rabbit guy. I love the Chinese food in America. Fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, chou mein, etc. I LOVE IT. The Chinese food in Japan is way to "exotic" for me though. To much "uneatable" ingredients.
When I first got to Japan, I loved all the Japanese food (except Natto). My favorite dish/cooking was/is Yakiniku. I love Sushi and Sashimi. But over the years, my taste for sashimi has almost completely died away.
Japanese preparation style is definitely healthier, not using as much oil.
Pick your poison.
