I tell them that I am a good customer and to please make things right for me. If they tell me I need to speak with a manager I do or sometimes I even ask for a manager when they tell me no. I am very polite with them, but firm. It works like a charm.

I used to be a sales clerk. Just tell them you don't need help or politely tell them that's not what you are looking for. If you know what you want, describe it. Then maybe they can show you what they have similar to that. I used to work at Maurice's and they should be helpful and friendly if you have one in your area. Look at Maurice's.com. They have a store locator.

Have pity for clerks. They pretend they don't know because if they stop to help you, they will get into trouble. Remember, don't take "no" from someone who can't give you "yes" in the first place! Always ask for the supervisor.

You sound obnoxious. I feel sorry for the poor underpaid clerk who has to wait on you.

I would totally say something like, "You really don't know? Well you must because you work at this store!"
