First of all - it is instinctive to propagate the species. All living things do it.
Secondly - It is the one legacy that we can leave behind: our genes and our traditions. It is up to us to live our lives by the values that we hold, and to pass those values on to our offspring.
With each new generation there is a hope that we will ind a way to live peacefully with each other despite our differences. And while it is sad that the future generations have to try to correct or at least compensate for the damage we and previous generations have done, we know that the human race's capacity for imagination and innovation have eradicated diseases and brought several species from the brink of extinction, etc.
For each Hitler, there is a Mother Theresa. But the very humble nature of the self-less individual is why we are less aware of their deeds. We also tend to feel guilty and ashamed that we don't do more ourselves, so we do not celebrate the true heros of humanity the way we should. Still, we can be a hero to our children and serve as the role models that they and their peers deserve.

I understand where you are coming from, but what would happen if your offspring grew up to make a difference in life. If they found a cure for cancer or aids, find a solution to the greenhouse effect, find a way to preserve nature or something even more spectacular. The present you and I live in will as leave a clouded view of the future. Our children however come into this world pure and innocent, not aware of what's out there. Your child could be the solution to end that struggle for existence. then again it may not be. Life is about taking chances to make a difference in life in which you are not promised to live forever. What you teach that offspring and the decisions that offspring will make will decide if the future is something to look forward to.

Someday someone will solve those man made problems you speak of. Someone will discover a way to reverse the global warming. Leaders will be born who will find a way to bring peace to parts of the world where peace does not now exist. Men and women will someday not be judged by their race, color of their skin, religious preference, or any other ethnic or spiritual criteria.
Many have come before us and made profound differences in this world. What if their parents had chosen not to procreate? What if there had been no Martin Luther King? No Nelson Mandella, etc.
Yes we will all die in the end, but new life will take our place and from that new life will come ideas, concepts and wonders that we can't yet imagine, and, I hope, a peace across the world that right now that we can only dream of.
As negative as your question is, I try to be positive in my response.
We procreate in hopes of a better world for our yet unborn children and grandchildren.

We have children and it is the hope that they will find what is good in life and grow from that. As far as death goes I do not believe that it ends in the grave. I think that the way a child deals with the world and their happiness is taught from the home and if you let the child know that he is loved and you teach him that he is capable then he will see beyond the horizon and have hope. Life is full of so many blessings and we cannot forget to look a bit more closely at them. If we open our eyes we will see we are surrounded in miracles and rather then ignore them take them to heart. There are no two blades of grass that are the same and the sky is an artists easel each and everyday. The miracle of life is joyous and we can see it all around us. Take your eyes off the badness. There is more goodness then you realize. Hope this helps.

I could desire to assert I certainly have by no potential considered Buddism twisted in particularly this style previously. If existence is suffering, we are to earnings from the war and for this reason replace into enlightened. This has no longer something to do with procreation it rather is in basic terms one view on existence because it stands interior the chain of reincarnation and enlightenment. Why procreate? All 3 of my little ones have been born out of affection, raised in love, and if I certainly have performed my pastime properly will bypass out into the international and attempt as I could desire to make it a extra suited place, to depart it extra suited than once you got here into it.

I guess we procreate because our orphanages aren't full yet, and we are looking forward to abandoning yet another child that is born to us with Down Syndrome, or whatever. Lol. No, seriously, we do it, for the simple reason we work so hard at almost everything else, fear of lonliness, fear of failure, fear of rejection in terms of society. We NEED to feel normal, accepted and loved. We do it because we want someone to take care of us when we get old. We do it because we want to be loved back. We do it because that's what it means to be successful, having a great family with a house with a picket fence or whatever. We do it because that's what society expects us to do? Hmm.

When we are born, we are an unknown.
We are a question, a conundrum.
What will we be? What will we do?
Are we to be a blessing or a curse?
A light with which to see
or torch with which to burn?
That is unknown to us.
We are but a package whose gift
is unwrapped and untested.
The answers only come in time
and always too late to save us.

For many reasons, someone forgot to take a pill, someone was too lazy to go to the drug store, some people selfishly want name sakes, sometimes birth control doesn't work, sometimes kids are young and stupid, some people feel called by God to procreate, etc...
There is no one blanket reason.

well, we all (well, some) want to have something to look forward to once we die. People want to know if their good deeds will lead to something better. Like the answer to the sense of karma. we all want some reason to exist wether its helping others or corrupting them. Its basic instinct to want and keep on living for something or for some reason. We live to live.
