How many people do you personally know of who have made the decision to move to Italy?
Much of my family lives in Italy, and I've visited several times. The country is beautiful, just about everywhere you turn you run into countryside vistas, wineries, rustic towns, etc. Visit Rome, it will give you good insight into the fascination of this city and its centuries of culture.
Many people may be influenced to live in Europe for several reasons, but many times it is simply the landscape that draws their curiosity. Others may be fed up with more repressive governments, and flock to Europe where laws are typically more lax. The reasons are endless.
I plan on purchasing a home in Italy sometime in the future. If you were to ask me why, I'd list all of the reasons above, and several more. But, unless you are very young and can't afford it, you should make the trip to Italy for yourself... and make your own decision on why you might want to live there.
Arrivederci.

Hi, I've been living in Italy for 8 years. Well, the food is really good, there are so many beautiful places to see (which are full of art, architecture, etc.), it's full of history, full of traditions, the people tend to be very friendly and down-to-earth, etc. Unfortunately, in some parts of Italy the idea of work-work-work is very strong but not like in the States. For example, I can ask for a month off in the summer but my American friends and family members will only get 1 or 2 weeks max of vacation. Italians still like enjoying life....etc. etc.

The esoteric texts of medieval Europe say that the southern
part of any land is good at preserving traditions. Of all the
southern countries in Europe, Italy has preserved the
largest of them. And the oldest of them.
Such lands provide homely atmosphere to peace loving
persons.
No other land claims so many descendants of legendary
heros of the yore. From so widely separated lands.

That is Italy.
