This is a broad question, if you narrow it to America (or perhaps another modern nation):
I think with TV, Music, Internet and other mass media the same general stupidity, ignorance, entertainment, and philosophy humans have experienced throughout history are only becomming more apparent. With time we as a a society will likely grow smarter due to the more widespread ideas, I believe that has already begun.
And it does seem common for some people to assert that the next generation is worse than they are in some way, but every generation runs the full spectrum of people.

I don't know my little sister in 3rd grade has recess once a week for 15 minutes, she is learning things i didn't learn in 3rd grade, I think kids have to learn so many new things earlier that it is hard to keep up when there learning what used to be 10th grade math in 8th grade, and maybe that's why kids are getting bigger because they barely have a recess, half the time my sister doesn't even go outside for the 15 minute recess once a week, and the cafeteria serving pizza and nachos and ice cream doesn't help, and I know kids who get 80's and they are perfectly happy with that and there parent's are perfectly happy, I think parents should want there kids to have higher grades and just be more involved, right now SADD has the most members ever, SADD is Students against drunk driving or students against destructive decisions

It's not that children are less intelligent. It is that children are not taught to analyse. Children are taught to accept without question, anything that they are shown or taught. Children today are rewarded for nearly doing it, not for accomplishing the task, which is detrimental to all children, regardless of the intelligence. We no longer teach children to win, in fact, we discourage any actions or words that entail any form of losing or winning, we wish all to be equal, even when that equality can't possibly exist. We wish to homogenise our kids, and give up the diversity that has allowed us to grow and experience new things. We have taken away the educated choice from children and left them with a sub-par status quo. We no longer embrace difference, we embrace sameness and call it difference. We must turn away from trying to protect our kids from the knowledge and experience that will help them through life. Children don't need to be protected from losing, they don't need to be protected from learning, and they don't need to be protected from answers to really hard questions. Doing so is just lying to them. So kids aren't dumber, or less intelligent, they just haven't been taught how to use their intelligence properly.

I agree with Rahab, the opposite is occurring. Kids are more intelligent than past generations. I have a question for you, is ur kid doing drugs and watching TV all the time??? If so, that explains your question

No. Our education system is failing and so are parents. We expect too little of kids and have dumbed everything down to suit the least intelligent among them. Parents demand high grades even when the kids don't earn them.

Actually, the very opposite is occurring. Children are getting smarter in many areas. Look at their electronic/technological skills. Kindergarten is not play time anymore. They don't sit around coloring. Most children are reading by the end of the year. They are completing computerized tests on their own, etc...

Not me. I am getting good grades even from watching people selling stuff, listening to the retarded music, and watching good sitcoms.
