80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

What is the point of life?

The point of life is to act in accord with truth. Engage life and live it. Discover truth and live it. You are truly the only one that can answer this question because life and truth are not something I can just hand you as though it were an object. You must go an live life and truth.

As an aside to my good friend above me:
Those who say that there is no evidence for religion hold to an empirical epsitemology and unkowingly even reject our ability to know causlity. Also, everyone has a god. To say that the point of life is to increase pleasure is to make pleasure your god and to follow a hedonistic ethic system.

The point of life is to see what happens around you. Then realize what you want and how you want to live your life, which is short for how much there is to see in our world. And then, try to reach what you set up in your head. Life your life to the fullest and have as much fun as you can. Travel, work, earn money, save money, spend money. Get to know people. If you like them, stay in contact, if not, don't mess with them, life goes on.
Have fun! bye

You don't have a Need to Know. Just do the best you can, the final exam is 5 minutes after you die.

Send me a gold crucifix and I will tell you one of the questions on the exam.

The point is that there is no final and ultimate essence to it. To be alive means to be dynamic yet unstable, autonomous yet socially situated, and so forth.
And why don't you want to kill yourself? There's no guarantee there's anything less painful than life.

Oh my goodness- If you can find my answer after the first one you will be very tired so I'll be brief. The point is to improve and never never give up.

JOY to the world!
All the boys and girls!
etc.

From the point of view of all that exists, it is EXPANSION.

If you want more details, ask for them in your question.
