I think its like shoplifting.

That is, its pretty likely that if you do it once, you won't
get caught. However, most people do it again and
again and again ... until eventually they ARE caught.

It ultimately comes down to you saying "OK, I now
have enough money, I don't need more." Human beings
generally have a hard time with that sentiment.

You're probably right. It would be extremely difficult to prove. Also there are probably a lot of people who overhear from a friend that company X for which they work is planning on doing Y which should help/torpedo the stock price and they trade on the info.
