A blinking check engine light usually means something is seriously wrong, like no oil pressure or engine is overheating. It must be a sensor, otherwise you'd have blown it up by now. Get a shop to check the code and fix it, or it's like the boy who cried wolf....

Blinking? The sensor could be dirty and causing it to go on and off. Take it to someone who could clean it for you. Or, it could be a problem that keeps happening like a hose is loose and cracking and only sometimes causing a vacuum leak. Either take it to Autozone or a place that does free code readings or buy a code reader yourself and check and see if their actually is a code. When you fix the problem, make sure to reset the code. If it comes back on again, either the problem wasn't truly fixed or as I said, the sensor is dirty. Good luck.

Don't take it to the dealership, at least not at first. Take it to AutoZone or Pep Boys (or any other auto parts store really) and they will do a free diagnosis for you. In the past, mine has generally been emissions-related... O2 sensor (once it was just not connected properly)... fuel cap not on properly (that was the dealerships fault by the way).

Once you find out what it is, then take it somewhere to get it fixed (unless you can do it yourself!).

Check your manual first.....but when my Nissan did that it was because I left the gas cap off.

But since you have a different car, check the manual or even do a search at the isuzu website and see...it could be something serious.

A misfire can be be caused by something very simple like a bad spark plug or an electrical short or it can be something more costly, a bad coil etc. very hard to guess at the cost.

Simple fixes.
1. Pop the hood and check the engine. (Which is what the light said to do.)
If that doesn't work try:
2. Take it to the dealership.

Thank you and goodnight.

I don't know what the problem may be but I'll tell you your better off to sell it or trade it now while it's working.. once something goes on an older trooper it's one thing after another.

If you have checked the normal things; water , oil change, oil level then maybe you have a faulty switch and you just need to go to Auto Zone or your dealership and have them just reset the switch. My change oil light stays on even after I have just had my oil changed unless I make sure the mechanic clears the switch. Sometimes it just needs to be reset.

A flashing check engine light means there is a misfire on one or more of the cylinders and you should get it fixed as soon as possible.
