I posted a question a few days ago about Silver standing on her head. She has stopped that now but she is no longer eating and I'm getting more worried about her raised scales. She does not resemble a pine cone (yet anyway!) and her bloating isnt that bad, it hasnt got any worse. She is being treated with this 'Fish revitaliser' stuff which has some sort of salt in it. She is still in the tank with my other fish. She does move but she isn't swimming around. I am so scared it might be dropsy. I am 13 and she is my beloved pet, I would honestly cry for weeks if anything ever happened to her. The lady in the pet shop said she has constipation, a bacterial infection and a swim bladder infection (I cheaked and all the sympotoms are correct except the scales) and the salt stuff is meant to treat this. If it is dropsy though it is in it's very early stages. The water was cleaned out last week. Please can someone help!!!

Just let nature take it's course, there isn't much you can do.
Prepare yourself.

If the scales are sticking out, it sounds like dropsy to me also. I'm sending you a few links to look at. The first will have symptoms of different diseases, so you can see if that's what your fish has. The second gives you info on treating the condition (and others if you decide that's not the problem). There are a few types of dropsy, with different causes, you would be the best person to know which of the types it might be. Follow the treatment advice for the correct type, but adding the salt was a good first step. And despite what the first article says, I have treated the bacterial cause with the maracyn products - it can be done if caught early.

Good luck with your fish!

If it's a swim bladder problem, feed her crushed peas. That usually helps them pass the air that's in their system causing the problem.

If it's dropsy you want to treat her with Maracyn I & II, because it might be an internal infection. And it might not, sometimes fishes kidneys just fail, with or without an internal infection. Usually by the time their scales raise it's a little late. =(

Good luck

Did you try to change her water? water changes help allot with sick fish! But make sure you use the same temp. when you do it! you could put the fish into shock if you don't! you can also get stress coat from the pet store that might help the scales!
