i really want a rubber ficus (ficus elastica) tree at least five feet tall for my office or living room. They are the ones with the big, sort of thick, leaves. Not flimsy for sure. I can not find a tree nursery in the Washington or Oregon area. The tree should be real by the way. Does anyone know any local nurseries i could call or visit. Any advice would help. Thank you.

Ficus elastica are so popular and common I am surprised you cannot find one locally. Have you tried the big box stores, Lowe's or Home Depot? They should even be able to order one for you. Try a florist also as you should shop this item so you will be offered a reasonable price for the critter. Florists are well plugged into the supply line.
Then, for good measure before you order locally, go on line and see what the item will cost you to be shipped. Shop smart.

The "Washington-Oregon" area is huge and you could be located anywhere in it. A general location would sure help. What is the nearest big town to you? How far are you willing to drive to pick up the plant? You get the idea.

Sometimes, online is not the best place to look for some items. Your best bet will probably be the Yellow Pages for the nearest big town. The bigger the town/city, the better the odds of your finding a retailer that sells large indoor plants. Rest assured that they are there. Look under "nurseries", "landscapers", "plants", and "interior decorators". Start calling these leads and if they don't carry what you want, someone is going to know where you can get what you want locally. Are you aware that many of the plants you see in office buildings and businesses are leased? These companies sign annual contracts with companies that supply, rotate, and maintain the plants you see in lobbies etc. Interior decorators also use large plants in their decorating schemes and they should be able to steer you in the right direction. Just keep digging and you will find what you want.

Good luck with your search.

Your challenge is to find an area large enough and hot enough to grow a 40 foot tree. Inside the house will never work. You can get a large plant that will fall over and break every 12 to 24 months. Better off trying a ferm or ivy for indoors. Now go drink a beer and relax.
