I have heard varying stories. Some people say it's because the supporters have less drinking time as the pubs have barely opened by the time the game starts. Does anyone know for sure? This has been the trend for years.

TV dictates the times. Plus, as SKY like to show 2 or 3 games live, this is probably the only one they could guarantee a huge audience in the morning, early afternoon. Plus it gives all the United fans, plenty of time to get the bus back to London!

It has nothing to do with Sky TV,, the reason for the early K.O. is because of the rivalry & hatred of each others fans, the Police have the final say & they want the game played early so it is easier to police & fans who are going to the game don't have time to congregate in nearby pubs beforehand, so therefore there is less scope for any trouble between rival fans..

Man Utd & Liverpool fans HATE each other, this is the feircest rivalry in English football BAR NONE,

Im a Man Utd fan & if we beat Liverpool twice it is a succesful season, regardless of anything else,, And True Liverpool fans will say exactly the same.

Despite the hatred there is mutual respect tho,, although we will never admit this publicly,, neither will they.

Because any later and it gets quite dark around the end of the match and so therefore more likely that the hooligan supporters will want to kick each others head in..

These are dark characters...Vampirish, blood thirsty types..

also the pubs will be open ( even by old licensing laws) So the Hooligans are having a few a friendly pints while innocent nonviolent supporters slip quietly home...Any left on the street after 4-5 pm are fare game...I know this for sure...please don't ask me how.

Thats my theory....but I don't give **** for any of that.

Various reasons have been touted - the main ones being (a) drink and (b) Sky. One thing is for sure, it will not be in any way, shape or form to help supporters. 11 am kick-offs on a Sunday for some of the West Midlands derbies! If they could make it 3 am so that viewers on Saturn would be better suited, then they would.

You are right, it is all to do with pubs and the fans drinking. First tried out at Millwall and proved to be a success, copied all over now.

ITS because its a big game and TV RIGHTS over years has changed dates and times.

for example: this season man utd was suppose to play arsenal away on saturday at 3 but they changed it to sunday because of tv rights.

true but this only happens when the match is played at anfield. at old trafford, any time would do.

the reason is because when liverpool loses to man united, their fans commit suicide in the neighbouring river. if the match is played at midday, it will be much easier to find their bodies....
