Basically, the Magician has two assistants, dressed the same. You only see one climb into the box. When the magician covers her over to insert the swords, she manouvers herself so she is inside the one box and the other assistant gets into the box from behind the curtain and positions herself so that her feet stick out the end (because they are dressed the same, you shouldn't notice it is a different person) You will notice the lights dim, music plays, the magician flexes the swords or something to create a distraction to draw your eye away from what is happening. The swords are removed and the assistant 2 wiggles her feet and the audience assumes its the same girl they saw at the beginning just wiggling her feet. Then the magician creates another distraction so the 2nd girl can remove herself from the box and the 1st can stretch into the rest of the box again (usually this involves theatrically removing the swords) and then the box is opened to reveal girl one lying there as before. Neat trick, but its just about creating a distraction really so you don't notice what is happening.

By using two people - so the legs that you see poking out of the box do not belong to the person that you see getting into the box. The two people are able to contort themselves just to fit into their end of the box that is cut in half. Unless there is a lot of blood and not much movement, in which case the magician may not have read right through the 'how to saw a person in half' instructions.

You're right! It's not possible! If you've ever noticed, their assistants are usually very tiny, petite & flexible women. Basically they squeeze themselves into one half of the box. It's fake feet that they stick out at the end! All the rest is just good showmanship from the magician!

Great question! I've alway wondered exactly the same thing. I'll look out for the distractions anotha answerer was referring to next time I see the trick performed.
