His forehand? His backhand? His serve? His net play? His ability to pass at the net? His consistency? His topspin lob? His mobility and court coverage? His footwork? His preparation for matches? His speed and endurance? I mean, maybe he is not the best in any single area, but a really close second to a small handful of other greats in particular facets of the game, yet when you add it all up perhaps he is the greatest. But what is the single greatest part of his game?

I honestly, whole-heartedly, believe its his sportsmanship. For some reason, I think its all about his love for the game, determination, and mental strength.

I think most of the tv announcers have said it....federer has everything: the talent, the strokes, the physical ability and mental toughness. But i think what separates him from everybody else is his ability to change his game tactics on the court almost instantaneously against different styles of play....just a great sense of situational awareness each match that he plays.

Just by watching him you can see that he's all around player. From his foot work to shot selections, how he can change the pace of the ball during a rally. And how he can turn around from a defensive positions to take control of the game.

If you got to watch his match against Pete Sampras when he was 19, you could see that he'd be the next big thing in tennis, and so it was the changing of the guard.

I think is his all-around ability. He has all the shots. He has a good enough serve and return for the hard courts, the foot speed for the grass, and the backhand for the clay courts.

federer is one of the best in all of those categories. his net play is the best. his forehand and backhands are the best, his consistency is among the best. his ability to pass is the best. his court coverage is among the best. His mental strength is the best. His serve, although often underrated is better than roddick's.

He is a really good player, and he could raise his level of play when his opponent starts starts to trouble him. He can also do things at the right time and he can play any shot in the book.
