I had read this paper the other day sorry forgot the name of the newspaper anyway.
The river itself run into two country that is USA and Mexico and end up in the Gulf of California
(the five state is Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Arizona and California)
So why it's important wildlife, power from the Hoover Dam specially to near by city or town like Las Vegas, food most fish, fun for water sport.

im from england so i might be wrong, i thought the colorado river's power was harnessed by the hoover dam to provide electricity and stored water so that cities could be built in an otherwise hostile environment

Well, for starters it provides much of the available fresh water for residents of five states, including southern California... nearly all of the river's water is allocated, barely a trickle actually reaches the Gulf of California.
