My computer's CD drive is a DVD/CD-RW combo drive. Can I use this drive to burn a CD? Or would I have to buy a seperate CD burning drive and install it to the computer. If so, what exactly am I buying so I know what to look for in stores.

Your DVD/CD-RW combo drive will play CDs and DVDs but will only burn/write to CDs it is not capable of burning DVDs.

You will need the software to burn the CDs though if it was shipped with the comp then it should have the software already installed will be called something like easycd creator, sonic or nero.

If it could burn DVDs it would be called a DVDwriter which burn both CDs and DVDs and would plays both too

You should be able to burn disks no problem.
With most purchases of these drives, comes a software cd that usually has a burning program on it. If you don't have one, go look for a program called Nero to burn. I've never had a problem with Nero, not even when using generic disks.

What DVD/CDRW mean is it can: Play DVDs, Play CD's, Burn CD's, and if you buy "rewritable" CDs you can also reburn CD's you have already used.

You do not need to buy anything but some blank CD's. In other words your good to go!

A DVD/CD-RW drive is, by definition, a CD burner... and a DVD burner as well. It can write onto CD-R, CD+R, DVD-R, and DVD+R disks, each of which can only be written to once... as well as DVD-RW and CD-RW disks. You may need a CD burning program, however.

This happened to me, the new cd's don't seem to want to be accepted by the drive. Try a different cd. Mine works best with 'Maxell'
