I don't think that homework should be banned because homework is a reminder of what you did in school that day, and without it, kids would forget what they did in class.

Caroline-
I'm an 8th grader, and I do not believe homework should be banned. It is in some ways good for us and it helps to reinforce what we learn. However, I do believe teachers should not overload us with homework or give so called "busy work" for the heck of it. Homework is meant to help, not overwhelm us... too much homework and "busy work" because the teacher can't think of anything better for the class to do when they're absent overwhelms us. Also, many kids are having back problems because of all those textbooks they have to carry home. I think teachers should replace bookwork with worksheets or else schools should provide each child an extra set of books to take home and leave home for the rest of the year.

Yes. As a teacher, I am required to assign homework, but I do not believe in it as an end to a means. Often, students need teachers' assistance (notice all of the postings on this site), and some teachers tend to assign busy work. My own children have had a lot of stress, and have not been able to do kid type of activities - like riding bikes, because they have too much homework. Homework should involve finishing meaningful classwork, but should not dominate a child's life.

No - If homework were banned, we would need to have a longer school day or more days of school per year. The point of homework is to provide practice mastery of subjects that are worked on in the classroom. There is no way for students to have time to master all of the necessary subjects with the current length of the school day/year.

I don't think so because it is an important part in a child's
education to have to be able to do certain types of work without a teacher always standing by. However, homework should be reviews of what they already know, and children shouldn't be expected to learn without a teacher. This homework should also not take more than 45 minutes to be okay in my opinion.

It would be nice but it is important. A child gets knowledge as well as discipline from homework. They get the practice that they need to improve

Not completely. Worksheets should be banned. They are used by teachers who are uncreative and lazy. Any homework assignments that children are given should be creative, fun, and inexpensive.
