I'm sure it's possible, but not taken very seriously by employers as it isn't as reputable as coming over to the States and going to classes etc...

They'll imagine it's one of those university "get a free PhD with your hotdog" kind of scams...

Unless you have a good reason/backing for why you're overseas doing your PhD... (E.g. you're excavating the tomb of some lost Pharoah and can't give this opportunity up, but really want a PhD)

Online education is a reality for today's professionals. Online masters in a variety of professions are common. Online PhD's are possible depending on the degree -- it may require some travel to the campus for parts of the program.

Not sure what your proposed degree is in but I recommend the US News and World Report findings to start looking.

Have you thought about Distance Education. Check out the University of Phoenix. The University of Maryland and other colleges have college programs in several overseas locations.These colleges are in countries that have U.S. military stationed there.
