I have had that done...wasn't too bad except that I got a dry socket which was not cool. That is one of the reasons you do not want to put ice in your mouth and suck on it as it can cause a dry socket.
Ice is the most power anti-inflammatory. Your oral surgeon should have explained after-care to you. When I got mine taken out that gave me an elastic ice pack holder that held these little ice packs on each side of my cheek.
When you ice keep the ice on for 15-20 minutes and then take it off for the same amount of time and repeat this cycle as often as necessary.

Don't put ice in your mouth. Use an ice bag or wrap crushed ice in a washcloth and place it on your cheeks. The swelling is normal and should go down in 24-36 hours. If you are still severly swolen on the third day. See your dentist again.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled when I was younger. Crush some ice and put it in a ziploc bag, then wrap it in a thin t-towel [ so you don't freeze! ] Put on your cheeks as long as you can stand it. Frozen bags of corn work pretty good too. Carnation instant breakfast and a straw saved the day for me. Good luck!
