How did Mark Hofmann fool Mormon leaders?

The LDS church is founded upon the claim of inspired leadership, yet a forger, Mark Hofmann, sold the church several fake documents. Does this mean the Mormon church is not led by inspired apostles and prophets?

The apostles and prophets are inspired, but that doesn't mean that they can't be deceived, especially when someone in the church confirms the documents authenticity. I actually live next door to the man who authenticated the documents sold to the church my Hofmann. He's just a church historian who has worked for the church his whole life. He doesn't like to talk about it because it's something he's not proud of, but humans make mistakes, as he did, and the church relied upon him. Just because a church is led by inspiration it doesn't change the fact that it's members and even it's leaders remain human.

That is a completely irrelevant statement. The LDS church is founded upon prophets and apostles who hold those keys, but Mark Hofmann and the choices he makes have nothing to do with it. Hofmann has his own free agency to do with it what he will.

I can't answer the last question with certainty. A part of the reason that the bought them was disgrace and wanting to keep the documents from being made public.
The rest of the world was fooled by these documents too. Keep that in mind.

you want to understand the nature of God. God calls prophets to handbook us yet does no longer coach us all issues.
