I clean mine after every load. My wife didn't have a clue that you needed to do that. Maybe that would explain the two or three hour drying time she encountered. Not only wasting money, it is a fire hazard if you don't clean out the screen. And it is even a better idea to take your dryer apart twice a year to clean out the lint that builds up inside the passages. Another good idea is to clean or replace the vent tube every couple of years. When i moved into my house, dryer vent tube was almost completely clogged!!! I tell you this people...clean your screen after EVERY load you dry and clean the vent tube every year or two. If you don't, you are flirting with a fire.

My Amana has a mesh screen and I just scoop out the lint. If it filters a bit on down under that, I remove the mesh with the two screws and either vacume or hand clean it out.
There is no changing anything with my unit. Cleaning filters on anything is not a unique job-it is called maintanance.

no it is important, can cause a fire or mess up the internal exaust motor etc, i do it . alot of fires are caused by the lint
