If you burn the cds as a data disk your will be able to hold about 200 songs per cd as opposed to burning a music cd that will only hold about 20.

Or depending on just how many gb you are talking about you could use an external hard drive and copy them to there or a large mp3 player, ipod or memort stick, if you having a dvd buring rom burn them to DVD it holds 4gb or you could also get another hard drive installed and just move them to the empty one while you format the old drive.

If you zip the files they will reduce in size too.

Are you suggesting that your hard-drive is on its last legs? You can try to checking the disk for bad sectors. From My Computer, you can right-click the affected drive and go to properties and open the tools tab. This will allow you to either backup files to other media or hard drive and schedule or check the drive for errors. If you don't want to use CDs or DVDs even though they are pretty cheap. You can get an additional hard drive like 250GB for less than $100. Compression using 7zip is also not a bad idea to save the number of discs you use..

you can compress the file that has all of the music by using 7-zip which compresses the file into 7z format and it 40% more effective than other compressing software. you can download 7-zip from: http://www.download.com/7-Zip/3000-2250_4-10634921.html?tag=lst-0-8
When your done compressing your music just burn the .7z format file onto a cd. When you get your new comp. just pop the cd in and unzip the file.! Cheerz
GoodLuck
