When you ride him, just play in the yard with him and a ball. Use a broom to knock it in front of him, then stear him to the ball. If he misses it, instead of confusing him, use the broom again. Eventually he'll catch on. Mine did! Now, I don't have to be on her anymore for her to kick the ball. The more "games" you play with your horse, the more fun he'll become! Good luck and have fun!

I dont think you can teach them, but you could try, get a bunch of treats, and keep him on a lead so he doesnt walk away, pick up his hoof and make him kick it, and when he does, give him the treat, and he may get the idea.
this may be REALLY hard, and may nver work. but you could try,
