There is a pair of great horned owls that lives by my house and it has become somw what of a hobby to watch them, but I would really like to know which is which.

The male has large,round gold eyes.Like all owls,their large eyes can't move.To look up,down or to the side,an owl must move its entire head and it is able to turn its neck 180 degree.
The female is the same as the male but larger in size.The male weighs about 3 pounds while the female weighs about 4.5 pounds.
The male is about 18 to 25 inches long and has a wing span between 35-60 inches.It has light gray to dark brown feathery ear tufts which is how they ended up with the name horned owl.

Mostly the male horned owl just sits around drinking beer, while the female nags him about not taking out the garbage.

The female would be the larger of the pair.

Females look like males only they are larger.
