i was just wonderin what is up with everyone these days? suddenly a lot are turning emo (all my respect). i am 14 and female i live in wales, uk. a lot of my friends and just lots of girls are slitting their wrists (but not deep enough) so they have got red marks running down their inner arm and the back of their hands. i asked a friend why she did it she said "it is fun", another said, "it doesnt hurt, i love doing it", "it relieves the pain and stress from life" and "i hate my life, this is well fun and just feels good"

i thought people did that if they wanted to commit suicide, i dont think any of these girls are brave enough or want to do that, i know life gets stressful sometimes but do you really want to DIE?! and anyway if you did want to die then take a pill or shoot yourself in the head, it is quicker and less painful. (not that i want anyone to do that)

so, Do you SELF-HARM? Do you know people that do?

thanks.

your friends are "cutters", and once you begin it is very hard to stop, in fact most of us never do. the best some of us can do is to try and control it. it is addicting, and it is spreading. I have recently attended three cutting parties at where everyone cuts themselves, and each other. it's exciting and intoxicating.

Your friends probably aren't suicidal, probably just doing that for attention or trying to fit into the emo subculture. Either way it's bad.

Some commit suicide to get back at others or get attention without really comprehending the finality of their decision.

Truly suicidal people want a way out. Their mind has broken down from depression or severe anxiety. They are literally lost in their own personal hell or nightmare. They are so messed up that they don't care if all goes black after they kill themselves. They just know they are suffering and want it to end. If you think about your worst personal hell in the farthest reaches of your mind (the dark places you don't tell anyone else about), these people are lost in there. A place you definately don't want to go to..

Just sounds like they are trying to get attention. The best thing you can do is bring those girls to a consellers attention. If they dont have enough respect for their own lives they have none for your life. They are a danger in the long run to you.

I think that cutting is a first step in a long trek toward actual suicide.
Many people cannot make that one grand leap to suicide. They try it out, so to speak, to see how it feels and to determine if they are willing to take that final step.

Cutting is a warning. Help that person if you can.

The people you are talking about simply want attention. I hate people like that, since when is it fun to promote suicidal behavior? My girlfriend and I both were suicidal for awhile, your friends don't know what it's like to be depressed. (your girlfriend/boyfriend breaking up with you doesn't count)

I think that there are too many violent movies and tv shows, this is making everyone numb. It's desensitizing them to any feelings what so ever and the cutters just want to FEEL something. Just my view on this.

cutting is a trend. most of the people who do it are doing it to "be cool".... like your friends. and then there's the age thing...give them a little time to grow up and they'll grow out of it.
