I need an excuse ( a believable one) to take of work for a wek at the end of this month. I doubt they would let me say for a vacation this late of notice but i have to go and i dont want to quit please help!!!!

Also i am going to tell them today so i cant tell them that i am going to get sick from the 25th thru the 1st

Why not be honest about the reason that you need the time off? Perhaps you could offer to take it without pay if the reason you need it off is very important.

As an employer, I am willing to cut a lot of slack to an otherwise excellent employee. On the other hand if you are an employee that is habitually late, needs constant supervision to stick to work, don't produce etc, I am much less likely to be generous. The bottom line is employers generally do not fire good employees willy-nilly, as they are hard to find and train. On the other hand if you are not a good employee, you might be at risk.

The flip side to this is if you have a pathological boss, who is more interested in controlling you than getting the best out of you. If that is the case, maybe it is time to look for a new job anyway.

I would say Family emergency and funeral in 'BFE' (Portland or anywhere.) Say nothing else!

Important: When returning to work after the vacation, have a detailed story of this very sad event that you prefer not to talk about.
