In a little league bat the usual standards are at least a -7 which states the diference between the weight and length, this determination will work for kids that r theusual size for the league if hes smaller than you will have to talk to a coach in the league to know the standards or even rules of the league

First off:
If your godson can hold the bat out from his body horizontally for at least 10 seconds, it's a good weight.

Try standing in a batters box and/or at the plate. Hold the bat out, and it the tip of the bat covers the other end of the plate, it's a good length.

So keep in mind these factors and tests.
And also... it's gotta feel good in his hands.

Good luck!!
