that's because there are errors on the disk. remove them with scandisk. scandisk is in the same place defrag is. have scandisk fix them automatically and have it run a through scan.

BUT THIS CAN TAKE DAYS DEPENDING ON HOW BIG YOUR DRIVE IS.

start scandisk and let it run until it finishes. check it occasionally becuse you might have to click a button several times before it is done.

YOU CANNOT USE YOUR COMPUTER FOR ANYTHING ELSE WHILE THIS RUNNING.

if it says it fixed all the errors then run defrag.

YOU CANNOT USE YOUR COMPUTER FOR ANYTHING ELSE WHILE THIS RUNNING TO.

i know you don't want to do trhis but it will work better if you do.

A pretty reliable way to run Defrag is to first boot the computer into "Safe Mode" by tapping the F8 key repeatedly as the pc first starts up. Then run defrag, shut down, and reboot.

run scandisk first to check for and repair errors and I always boot to safe mode to defrag so most all programs are not running and defrag goes a lot faster but todays drives take some time to defrag especially if it is not done often
