Even if the tap is on at a very low intensity, it still fills up. Thanks in advance.

sounds like you have a slow drain. get some heavy duty drain cleaner at a hardware store or borrow a snake to snake it out.

The first thing you should do is remove the p-trap and clear out any obstructions. If this does not work and you notice a lot of grease, than boil water and pour it into the drain. If you do this on a regular basis, it helps to keep your drain clear. Another great product is a compressed gas device that you can buy from home depot. It will clear anything.

Get a "Zip It" it is a non chemical drain cleaner - you most likely have hair and debris right at the top of the drain - drain cleaners are really for deep clogs and the chemicals can be really nasty. After you Zip It pour in 1/2 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of vinegar to free up any solids and then run cold water for 5 minutes your drain should now run free and clear - with out toxians!

Put 1/2 cup of baking soda in drain, then pour in 1 cup of hot vinegar. When it stops bubbling, run hot water. You may have to repeat a couple of times, but this has always helped break up clogs for me. Baking soda & vinegar will not harm your pipes the way some commercial drain cleaners can.

In the future, do the baking soda/vinegar down the drain once a week. Works in showers/tubs as well.

pour some bleach down the drain and put a little piece of ivory soap in the drain at the same time. Do this periodically and it should help keep the drain clear.

I GET THIS PROBLEM WITH MY SHOWER DRAIN AND BASICALLY IT'S BECAUSE SOMETHING IS CLOGGING THE PIPE YOU NEED YOU GET WHAT'S CALLED A SNAKE - IT'S A VERY FLEXIBLE LONG WIRE TYPE OBJECT THAT YOU CAN PUT DOWN YOUR DRAIN AS FAR AS IT WILL GO THEN IT SHOULD SNAG THE BLOCKAGE THEN YOU CAN PULL IT OUT OF THE SINK PLUG HOLE AND DISPOSE OF IT. YOUR DRAINS SHOULD THEN CLEAR BETTER. IF THIS DOESN'T WORK YOU NEED TO FIND OUT WHERE THE PIPES COMES APART USUALLY AT THE BEND AND CLEAR THE BLOCKAGE THAT WAY.

your sink is cloged.
You can actually fix it your self, just go underneath the sink and you'll see a pipe leadig to the sink. Unscrew the pipe and clean out the junk. It's probably hair and dirt so remember to put a bowl underneath so the excess water doesn't run out.
Then just srew the pipe back together.

My hubby uses the plunger on it and anything that comes out he throws away. It works every time. Good luck. If it smells use a cupfull of bleach and pour it in there. It is not recommended that you use things like 'Draino'. I read that someplace..not sure where, but i guess it isn't good for the pipes in the long run.

All the answers are good so far, but they forgot to have you check the vent pipe. You very well may have a bird's nest in it.
