i'm not sure how old you are but here are 3 ideas for a homemade gift and all the materials you need are in your home.

1.Picture necklace of you.Take a top from a milk cartoon.Rinse it off.Cut a picture of you and glue it on the inside of the milk cap. Then take a long piece of ribbon and wrap it around the side of the cap(only once) with glue. You should have extra ribbon left. This part will be tied together in a small knot.Your dad can either wear it or hang it somewhere. If he has an office then he can hang it on something there. Its sort of like a medal.

2.Pencil holder.Take a toilet paper roll(not the tissue but the role it comes on). Cover it with paper or paint it whatever color you want. Then decorate it however you want it.Next take a small piece of cardboard.Cut a circle out from it and glue it on the bottom of the tissue role(the opening).Let dry and you have a pencil holder.

3.Love book.tell people you are putting together a bok for your dad and could they write something about him. When you have enough place the comments in a report folder or a scrapbook. If the comments are small then cut them out in funny designs(meaning not just a square or circle but sort of like a cloud) and glue them on a page. You can add stickers on that page to add more life or just scratch different colors of crayons all around the page.I use this often for people.

I made a scavenger hunt for my dad, like gave little clues from when important events happened around the house, like which window I fell out of as a kid, etc. If that seems a little hard maybe do one with your town, or around your community..like " a place where knowledge is given, 9 months of the year" for the school..it might help to give him clues and hints on the envelopes for guidance...and at the end you could be there with your family at a park or something with a meal, or even a pie :) whatever he likes. hope i helped without overwhelming :)

Does he have a desk? If so, take some empty food cans and glue on fabric or paper. A tuna can will hold paperclips. A veggie can will hold pens/pencils and scissors. Or if your mom has an old purse she doesn't want, cut that up and glue around the cans for a leather look.

How about a sculpey-covered pen & pen holder for his desk. My daughter made these pens last year for her teachers as an end-of-year gift & for her Dad & grandpas for Father's Day while she was at it. Everyone was impressed. Just make sure to use the plain white Bic pens - we tried the clear plastic, but they melted during the cooking phase.

Maybe you should try a sculpture or scrapbooking, something different.

Here is a website about scrapbooking. Maybe you could go to a local craft store and get some info about scrapbooking.
