No, that's only gonna make it worse.
First toggle the Hold swtich then turn the ipod off and on again.
If that doesn't help, hook it up to your computer and sync it with your itunes.
If that doesn't do anything, reset it by holding down the center and menu buttons for a few seconds until the Apple icon appears on your screen. Try this a few times.
Still no luck? Go into itunes and click the link to your ipod. Click "restore". All this does is take all your songs and stuff off the ipod; they will still be on your itunes so you can put them back on if your ipod is fixed.
And if all else fails, find the number for your nearest Apple Store and give them a call. They may ask you to schedule and appointment so they can look at what's wrong, or they may be able to tell you what you need to do to fix it.
When i mine was broken, only the bottom left corner of the screen would work, but everything else functioned fine. They didn't know what to do, so they gave me two options:
1) replace the ipod with one exactly like it for $30
2) replace it with an identical one, extend my warranty another year, and give me codes to sign up for Apple Support for $40.
My one year warranty was still good, but they weren't gonna replace it for free (now that makes sense, doesn't it?)
But don't hit it! That will probably just break it more.
Hope that helps ya

it just depends sometimes if it freezes and u hit it it might work again but it would end up getting worse. so the best thing to do is read the handbook that comes with it and try figuring it out that way trust me i have an ipod and im already on my 2nd ipod.

If it doesn't work try going to Ipod.com or apple.com and you can replace it... you have to have an apple ID though... and the serial number... they'll probably charge you Shipping and Handling though.

No, it will probably break. Just reset it, or send it back in to be fixed.
