Hussein Obama is 1/2 white but is consistently described as black. Tiger Woods is 1/2 Asian, but is consistently describd as black. Given that most black people have white ancestors, that would probably make both of them less than 1/2 black. Why are they always described as black? Is it because the black community has so few people that are worthy of being looked up to?

They do have some good role models..Conde Rice, former Sec. of State Powell..but of course they are not anti-American liberals,so they do not count

Aside from the blatantly offensive "is it because the black community has so few people that are worthy of being looked up to" part of your question, I'll attempt to give my opinion about the rest. Many people go by physical features, although the legal standpoint is also true. Barack Obama (I'll assuming this is what you meant), has more black features than any white one, and so does Tiger Woods. But I do not agree that anytime someone is 1/2 black people just refer to them as black. Kimora Lee Simmons is usually only referred to as Asian, but she is 1/2 black. Also, Nicole Ritchie, she was adopted by Lionel Ritchie, but one of her real parents was still black. No one is going around claiming her as an African American. So, no...black does not trump white, but people do tend to refer to people based on how they look, as well as how they personally identify themselves.

I believe it is more that the Black gene is so dominant. You can take white and white and you still make white.Black and Black creates Black. But it also creates many shades of brown and Black. But take Black and white and it creates the dominant Black....we should just face the fact that Black is not only the more dominant but also the strongest. And I don't think the Black community "has so few people that are worthy of being looked up to". In fact, name me one white that Blacks should look up to. I'm white and I can't think of even one. We need to discontinue the thought that whites are superior. Because we're not. In fact, that way of thinking makes me think of Nazis.
Most Blacks I know are far ahead of the white "role model" syndrome. They look up to their parents and grandparents. Maybe we should do the same.
(and by the way, Tiger had to admit to his Blackness. His father now deceased, was Black. And Obama's father was Black also. You see, you can't hide that Blackness so might as well fess up to it. And look at Halle Barry. Mother as white as snow. But the father was Black. Beautiful woman; beautiful coloring.
Again it's that strong dominant Black gene.
(Take a look around. Black men with white women. now even more white men with Black women. Beautiful mixed babies being born everyday. It's a sign of the times. In a few decades,
Few will need suntans anymore.).

no thats not why.

its how you are viewed by the world- you see dark skin you think black. vin diesel is half black but he looks white- thus people describe him as white.
Then the person realtes to society and forms their racial idenity in that aspect.

Racist American laws of the past. If you had 1 black grandparent you were legally considered black. Blacks were also legally considered 1/5 human.

Good question, but I do not think of them as black but mulatto.
The black community has plenty of people, OPAH, Bill Cosby, Rosa Parks, plenty of athletes, etc.

that's an interesting point. i would like to see us judge a person on their own merits and stop attaching descriptions to people. i don't care if obama is black. i don't care that mitt romney is mormon, etc.
