The sleep state can be divided into nonrapid eye movement (NREM) and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. NREM sleep is divided into four stages based on electroencephalographic criteria. The first REM in a normal adult occurs 60–90 min after sleep onset, and there are usually four or five NREM-REM cycles, each lasting for 90–110 min. Most dreams occur during REM sleep. The sleep-wake pattern for humans follows a circadian rhythm. An average adult needs approximately 7–8 hours of sleep, but elderly people have frequent awakenings.

Clinical disorders

Sleep disorders are classified as dyssom-nias (intrinsic, extrinsic, or circadian rhythm disorders), para-somnias, and disorders associated with medical, psychiatric, and neurological illnesses. Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, narcolepsy, psychophysiological and idiopathic insomnia, and restless legs syndrome are examples of intrinsic sleep disorders. Extrinsic sleep disorders include inadequate sleep hygiene, insufficient sleep syndrome, and hypnotic-, stimulant-, and alcohol-dependent sleep disorders. Circadian-rhythm disorders include jet lag and shift-work sleep disorders.

Parasomnias are characterized by abnormal movements or behavior intruding into sleep (for example, sleep walking, sleep terrors, SLEEP TALKING OR LAUGHING; nightmares, sleep paralysis, tooth grinding, and bed wetting). Most parasomnias do not require special treatment; however, psychotherapy may be helpful in some cases. Nightime disorders occurs in children or adults under severe or traumatic stress.

Somniloquy or sleep-talking is a parasomnia that refers to talking aloud in one's sleep. It can be quite loud, ranging from simple sounds to long speeches, and can occur many times during sleep. Listeners may or may not be able to understand what the person is saying

Treatment of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome consists of avoidance of sedatives or alcohol consumption, weight loss, and use of continuous positive airway pressure which will open the upper airway passage. Narcolepsy is treated by stimulants and short naps. Cataplexy is treated with tricyclics. Chronic insomnia can best be treated by sleep hygiene and behavioral modification. Circadian-rhythm disorders may be treated by bright light and chronotherapy

Sleep education
"Sleep hygiene" or sleep education for sleep disorders often includes instructing the patient in methods to enhance sleep. Patients are advised to:

1) wait until he or she is sleepy before going to bed
2) avoid using the bedroom for work, reading, or watching television
3) get up at the same time every morning no matter how much or how little he or she slept
4) avoid smoking and avoid drinking liquids with caffeine
5) get some physical exercise early in the day every day
6) limit fluid intake after dinner; in particular, avoid alcohol because it frequently causes interrupted sleep
7) learn to meditate or practice relaxation techniques
8) avoid tossing and turning in bed; instead, he or she should get up and listen to relaxing music or read

Alternative treatment

Some alternative approaches may be effective in treating insomnia caused by anxiety or emotional stress. Meditation practice, breathing exercises, and yoga can break the vicious cycle of sleeplessness, worry about inability to sleep, and further sleeplessness for some people. Yoga can help some people to relax muscular tension in a direct fashion. The breathing exercises and meditation can keep some patients from obsessing about sleep.

Laughing, Talking, movement and other bodily actions are all normal in sleep. It usually starts to decline over tiem from childhood.

If there is a danger through this, or it is disturbing, then it can be cured through means like hypnotherapy or pills. If you know you could put yourself or others at risk through sleep-actions, consult your doctor.

Do not kill yourself. We live in a sinful evil world, and some people are ungodly. Others have deep problems of their own and if they can find somebody else to take it out on they will. I was taunted almost everyday all through middle school and high school, cried almost everyday and didn't know why it was happening sometimes my dad would beat me and laugh at me crying when I came home from school, but the Lord was watching as He was even worsely treated when He came to Earth to die for our sins. I have stretch marks too brought on by weight gaining medications I took when I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. He showed that He loved me and as fortunate enough to hear the loving message of what he did by the grace of God through someone sitting at my lunch table one day. Hang in there because the Lord is everso watching and understands and has great plans and true purpose for your life if He doesn't decide to take you Home in Heaven with Him!. You are dearly loved and special. Jesus Loves you. Jesus (God in human flesh) God's only begotten Son, came to Earth thousands of years ago to die for our sins that whosever believes in Him would not perish but have Everlasting Life in Heaven with Him with great treasures He has prepared for you there and in Heaven there will be no more suffering. Believe me you are unique that is actually more special than fitting the norm an being like the crowd. I came into prayer to Him for healing of this illness after I became a Christian, and He healed me of the bipolar disoder. I still have the stretch marks but it's a beautiful soul that truly matters not a beautiful body that so many people strive to achieve. So superficial. Anyone that is true will love you for who you are, not what you look like! People act mean and this way and may not even know why, but it's because the first man and woman created, Adam and Eve sinned against God and that brought sin upon the whole world and messed it all up. That's explained in full in the Old Testament in the Bible. God still had a plan to redeem us, promises to be there for us Forever and show how to live life on this Earth through His Word, the Holy Bible which He left for us. Hang in there, know that you are special and invite Jesus into your heart to be the Lord and Savior of your life, then He will give you the Holy Spirit which seals us until the day of redemption.. Next step. purchase a Holy Bible. Start reading the New Testament that will show you the Love and wisdom of God and what He did for us and many important teachings for your new life with Him while you walk this Earth. He promises to bless you greatly for all the things you have faced and lead you on a true and righteous path. Nothing on this Earth will be able to separate us from the Love that is in Christ Jesus. I have Love for you as well and any true person would love you too. Hang in there and you keep being kind, do not kill yourself God decides when it's over. Love, Katrice

Yes, it's normal. It is usually worse when you are a child though. You have no conscious control over your actions, so naturally your sub-conscious takes over, so your body naturally moves, and you speak.
