Lots, especially if you like the outdoors.
Some of the things you can do around the Bar Harbor area include:
-- Learning how to kayak on the sea
-- Take a whale watch cruise
-- Take a casual cruise along the Margaret Todd schooner
-- Take The Cat ferry to Nova Scotia for the day
-- Take the ferry to Little Cranberry Island
-- Bike along Acadia National Park's 45 miles of carriage roads
-- Hike along Acadia's 125-plus miles of trails that range from beginner to experienced
-- Learn to rock climb at Otter Cliffs
-- Sample genuine Maine lobster at just about any eatery
-- Browse the shops in downtown Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, or Southwest Harbor
-- Take an underwater sightseeing trip without having to get wet
-- Tour Jackson Laboratory, one of the world's leading genetic labs
-- Hop a bit down to the south and check out the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory, which features a 420-foot, 36-degree view of area
-- While checking out the observatory, check out Fort Knox
-- Visit the Colonel Black Mansion in Ellsworth
-- Stop at L.L. Bean's outlet store in Ellsworth for some great, quality bargains
-- Take a tour with Acadia rangers and learn about everything from the geology of the area to beavers to interesting things you can find in tidal pools (most of these tours are free)
-- Camp at Acadia
If you're coming up I-95, stop at any of the visitor centers to get all of the brochures and pamphlets you'll ever need. Major centers are just off I-95 in Yarmouth and in Hampden. There is also a visitor center on Thompson Island, which you must cross when going from the mainland to Mount Desert Island. And, of course, there is Acadia's visitor center, where you can buy your park pass and pick up a free copy of the park newspaper, the Beaver Log.

hi: i'm from the NE too and this is all a count number of flavor. i respect steamer clams and minced surf clams (esp in chowder), alongside with scallops and shrimp, yet i visit't stand oysters or mussels. try only one oyster earlier you order a collection, because they do no longer flavor something like clams.
