they seem to be suggesting that having emotions is bad. Are the younger generations turning into emotionless robots with the "it's all about me" attitude? Do they think showing emotion is a sign of weakness? Am I missing something?

Well,they're talking about an attitude of a subculture...and really,their understanding of it is skewed.Before the popularization of it,it was emotionally charged punk or pop punk music.Now,it's become another name for goth or grunge.

Emo is not a good thing or a bad thing. It's a "label" that teens use to describe anyone who apparently "cuts themselves". Teenagers show emotion differently these days, because of society's expectations and its needs for perfection.

Emo is commonly used when somone thinks and or attempts suicide. the commen streotype of an "emo" is somone with no friends, black hair, hair over one eye, super type pants, guy, and in some cases converse shoes. I dont really understand why people use this as an insult?

So THAT'S what that means.I hear people mention that word alot on here. I guess I'm finally at that stage where I'm too old to understand the lingo of the cool kids. And I'm only 25! That's sad, really.

i agree with you ..of cause we all have emotions and no i don't think any one with emotions is weak at all.. i think the emo's they are talking about are the ones that are cutters and gothics, this is what they are calling them in aussie.

its not that we are emotionless its just that emo kids are full of emotion, especially despair.

emo is another word for selfish. "emos" wallow in their "misery," while others cope and move on with life.
