With any of my ultrasounds I never had to drink water and hold my urine. I know that some clinics or doctors offices do that though. I'm so glad I didn't have to.

NO! Six pregnancies & births, countless ultrasounds, and I've only ever had to hold my water for an hour or so-- and that's difficult and painful enough! Holding it too long is putting the woman at risk for a UTI, which are more common in pregnancy anyway. Not to mention painful, and downright impossible with the overactive bladder in the first place! They only want the bladder full so they can use it as a reference point in early pregnancy-- to differentiate between the fluid-filled bladder & the fluid-filled amniotic sac (with the solid embryo/fetus within). I've even had to get up and go pee just before finally being called in for the u/s, and they were still able to do the u/s (although I did get a mild scolding for it).
If this happened to you, I would suggest filing a serious complaint. And in the meantime, drink lots of cranberry juice & water.

I wouldn't be able to, and I am not pregnant right now. Mine just said to make sure I didn't go a 1/2 hour before and to bring a bottle of water with me. that was with my son. With my daughter, I had an emergency ultrasound, did not hold my pee for any length of time b/c it was unplanned and the pictures came out just fine.

With my first Ultrasound at 11wks to check dates.. i had to drink 3 glasses of water an hr before (main reason full bladder helps push the smaller uterus higer so they can see better).. and the 2nd ultrasound at 18wks i just wasnt allowed to empty my bladder. I've never heard of having to hold it for 11 hrs! I dont think thats right! I had a hard time with the 3 galsses a water for like 2 lol! Thats just insane

Definitely NOT! My daughter is pregnant and has had 3 ultrasounds...due to an abnormal afp result and she was only told to hold it for an hour prior, each time!
